"Small but Beautiful and Benefiting People's Livelihood" Liaoning International Cooperation Group Helps Agricultural Development in Côte d'Ivoire

On November 1, the 2023 Global Partnership for Poverty Reduction Seminar was held in Beijing. The meeting released the list of winning cases of the fourth "Global Poverty Reduction case Collection" jointly sponsored by the World Bank Group, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development, the United Nations World Food Program, the Asian Development Bank, the China International Poverty Alleviation Center and the China Internet News Center.

Liaoning International Cooperation Group's 《"Small, Beautiful and Benefiting People's Livelihood" Helps Agricultural Development in Côte d'Ivoire-Case of China's Technical Assistance Project in Gegdu Reclamation Area in Côte d'Ivoire "won the best poverty reduction case of the" Fourth Global Poverty Reduction Case Collection ", which was included in the South-South Cooperation Poverty Reduction Knowledge Sharing Website-China and Foreign Countries Poverty Reduction Case Library and Online Sharing Platform. Qu Yunsheng, member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Liaoning International Cooperation Group, and Wang Gan, Minister of Business I, were invited to attend the meeting.

The technical assistance project for the Gogdu Reclamation Area in Côte d'Ivoire can be traced back to the irrigation and water conservancy project in Côte d'Ivoire, which was built in the 1980 s. It is located in the village of Gogdu, Divo Province, southern Côte d'Ivoire.With the goal of "improving rice varieties, improving planting techniques and increasing rice yields", rice farmers in the reclamation areas, agricultural associations, the Ivorian Rice Agency and the Ivorian rice growing industry are the direct beneficiaries. This project is funded by the Chinese government and is the first economic and technological cooperation project between the Chinese and Kuwaito governments after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1983,Geddu Reclamation Area Technical Assistance ProjectIt has been implemented by Liaoning International Cooperation Group. At present, the technical assistance project has been implemented to the eleventh phase. During the tenth phase of the technical assistance project alone, the project team provided information to the Rice Service of Côte d'Ivoire, the Agricultural Association,,ANADER, farmers, trainees, etc. provided 64390kg of rice stock. The new rice varieties cultivated by the Chinese experts of the project and approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of Côte d'Ivoire have been extended to the rice growing areas of Côte d'Ivoire. Specifically, it includes the center (Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, Bouvre), the west (Mang, Gagnoa, Isia, Darova), the north (Felek, Kohogg, Kadiola), the south (Abboville, Tiazare) and the east (Abonkro, Betiai, Benguanu, Aha, Mbatow). The Gegedu reclamation area and its surrounding areas have almost achieved full coverage, and good progress has been made in the promotion of new rice varieties. Chinese rice varieties with the characteristics of "high yield, high quality and multi resistance" are welcomed and loved by local rice farmers.

The implementation of this project is conducive to the improvement of rice cultivation technology, the improvement of rice seeds and the increase of rice production in Côte d'Ivoire, which will help to achieve the goalThe national strategic goal of rice self-sufficiency in 2025 is also of great significance for strengthening cooperation between China and Côte d'Ivoire in the field of agriculture and promoting industrial promotion actions under the framework of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to implement scientific and agricultural assistance.
